About The Fifty States Project

PHP, an alternative to Microsoft's ASP, is a powerful tool used to create dynamic web pages. Sean Gleeson's Fifty States Compendium can be found at compendium.50statesproject.com and sets a great example of a website created in PHP. Sean leads his Web Design II students through the 16 week course by first learning Javascript. After Javascript, the students gradually land into PHP, where a site is designed by each student using PHP and the 50 States Project theme. The students plan and create their sites using PHP to dynamically populate their site projects with photos and copy. By using PHP to bring in photos like the state birds, state landmarks, and state flowers, students learn how to save time using this "elegant" web tool.
